Greasers
Greasers were a youth subculture that was among teenagers in northeastern and southern United States. Greasers were commonly known in the 1950's and 1960's. The major part of there culture was rock and roll music. Famous singers included Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Ritchie Valens. The name "greaser" came from their greased-back hairstyle, which involved combing back hair using hair wax, hair gel, creams, etc. The clothing that greasers wore was included fitted T-shirts that were with the sleeves rolled up, ringer T-shirts, Italian knit shirts and Baseball shirts. Greasers were usually considered as urban working class ethnics.
5 SLANG WORDS
- "Dibs" Most always used with "Got". Example: I "got dibs" on that Coke bottle. Meaning you owned that Coke bottle.
- "Ditch" Skip a school day without permission; also, leave someone behind as in "Let's ditch this guy".
- "Ankle Biter" A baby or small child
- "Don't Flip Your Wig" Used when someone was "going ape" or perhaps being a "spaz."
- "Bogart " To "hog" something.
Gang History
People might have joined a gang in the 1960's because everyone including Asians, Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites were all apart of it. Gangs were formed because it means of self protection and as social clubs. People joined because they use nick names to identify themselves, use drugs and alcohol and conduct criminal activity such as, assault and murder. If you would join a gang you would be commonly known as a "gang banger."
