BEFORE THE RISING

  • Before the rising WW1 broke out and Irish people had no choice but to join the British in the fight to earn money.

THE IRB

  • The IRB were a group of people who believed the only way to achieve Home Rule was to have an armed rebellion.
  • Their leaders planned the rebellion to achieve it.

EASTER MONDAY

  • On Easter Monday 1916 a small group of men walked to the GPO in Sackville street, they were led by the IRB, they were armed with guns but small ammunition.

EASTER MONDAY-THE RISING BEGINS

  • When they reached the GPO the rebels charged in taking over the place while Pádraig Pearse stood outside reading the proclamation.

EASTER TUESDAY

  • The streets were deserted on Easter Tuesday thanks to all the fighting.
  • There were 2000 rebels and 5000 British soldiers fighting.

WEDNESDAY

  • On the morning of Easter Wednesday a gun boat came up the Liffey to help bombard Liberty Hall.

THURSDAY

  • On Thursday night James Stephens met Douglas Hyde the founder of the Gaelic League and someone who wanted to joined the fight

Food starts getting harder to get on Friday morning with people begging for food.

  • Starvation goes around the city on Friday morning with people begging for food.

On Saturday James Stephens boss tells him the volunteers were surrendering. The evening was peaceful.

SURRENDER

SURRENDER

  • On Saturday Morning Elizabeth O’Farrell met General Lowe carrying a white flag and agreed to surrender. The surrender document was brought by Pádraig Pearce.

SURRENDER-EXECUTIONS

  • After the surrender the rebels were sent to Kilmainham Gaol before being sentenced to death.

1916 COMMEMORATION

  • 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪This day is used to commemorate the fallen soldiers who fought for a free Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪.
