Pump up the jams

Two minutes of “Eye of the Tiger” will rejuvenate you. If you get along well with your team, and the environment allows for it, play the song on your speakers so everyone can wake back up. Otherwise use headphones.

Put on a happy face

Any time you engage with other people (sales or otherwise), your nonverbal cues say at least as much as your words. Even on phone calls, while people can’t see your smile, they can hear it. Plus when you smile, it makes the people around you smile.

Talk to your neighbor

Engage socially so you look forward to coming to work. You don't have to be best friends, but you shouldn't be strangers either. If you work remotely, consider holding daily Skype calls for 10 or 15 minutes with a mentor or friend.

Move it or lose it

Go sit somewhere else. Weather permitting, you should go outside. A change of scenery can clear your mind. If you have a favorite spot that isn’t your desk, go there. If you work from a laptop with wifi, do some work from that new location and see how it inspires you.

Be here now

Don’t spend all day thinking about the vacation you just went on or the getaway you’re leaving for on Friday. Be at work when you're there. This also means you should be at home when you're home. Try not to take your work with you at the end of the day.

Hydrate
or die

Drink water. Drink lots of water. There’s science somewhere behind this suggestion, but the most important point is that staying hydrated makes you feel better.

Dress to impress

The way you dress affects the way you work. You may not need to wear a suit and tie, but if you come to work in your pajamas, you’ll feel like you never got out of bed.

Get comfortable

If you stand or walk a lot, wear comfortable shoes. If you sit, be sure you’ve got enough back support and that your computer monitor is adjusted to the right height.

Stand up

If you sit for a long time, try standing in between emails or phone calls. Stretch your legs out to avoid problems down the road like restless leg syndrome.

Sit down

If you stand or walk for a long time, try sitting for a minute. You don't want to be so physically worn out that you can't handle the mental stress of work.

Stay distraction-free

Your smartphone can help you accomplish a lot...or absolutely nothing. Establish a "no phone zone" or set periods of time where you won't check notifications. There are a few apps to help you with that, but disciplining yourself at work will help you reconnect with the world outside of work.

Set goals

If you’re focused on a goal, you generally get more done. If you get more done, you feel good about your day. If you need some help setting goals, check out this article by Samantha Smith.

Create something

More companies now are giving their employees time to create things. This can be products for your company to sell, or if your employer doesn’t mind, something entirely unrelated. Creation frees your mind and causes more good ideas to flow, improving the rest of your day.
