THE BREAK DOWN

• This is the amendment that created the electoral college.
• The electoral college is made up of representatives from each state,
• The biggest states, population wise, having more representatives known as electors.
• These electors all give their vote for the presidential candidate that wins the popular
• Vote in each state.

THE HISTORY AND NEED OF THE 12TH AMENDMENT

• After a disastrous election in 1800 the 12th Amendment came about in 1804.
• In 1796 the system was set up that the first place winner of the election was to be president
• While the second place winner was to be VP. In 1800 this resulted in two candidates from separate
• Parties were nominated president and vp. This matter was brought to the house where each state had
• One vote. This led to the amendment in which President and running mate were paired together

THE 12TH AMENDMENT MADE IT SO THAT EVERY STATE

• No matter how small had a say in voting.
• It was the anti federalist that were for this amendment while the federalist were against it.
• While many people want to get rid of the electoral college, some fear that small states could
• Get overwhelmed in a popular vote. With the electoral college each state gets at least 3 representatives.

FAMOUS CASE WAS BUSH VS. GORE

• WHERE IN 2000 VOTES WERE SO CLOSE AND IT CAME DOWN TO FLORIDA,
• Where bush's younger brother was governor. Ending in George Bush winning.

THE END
