Warm-up
Think back to the Lakota people. What kinds of resources did the Lakota people use prior to the time of reservations? How did they survive on the Great Plains?
Objectives
- Review purpose of new unit.
- Examine Scandinavia/Northern Europe
- Review how Scandinavian people have used their resources.
- Examine modern day Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
EQ: How have Scandinavian People used their resources?
Northern Europe
Separated by water, it is the only region of Europe whose parts are unconnected.
British Isles and Scandinavia
Unit:
1) Physical geography of Europe and how humans have been/are affected by it.
2) Look at modern Europe today and identify modern European countries.
3) Look at the past of an are of Europe and find a historical group/legend and how it connects with European geography.
Critical Think
Which climate zone do you think that Northern Europe is in?
Scandinavia
Is a mountainous area with little farming land. Often it could be materially poor, although mountains provided some minerals.
Homework:
For physical features, do not say "Hills" or rivers.
Scandinavia is very often very cold with long, dark winters. Difficult to farm in.

Scandinavians were often great sailors and explorers.

Write how you think the Scandinavians were able to use their strengths?
Viking Raiders
Adventurers who sailed out on longboats to pillage and loot new lands. They would bring back their loot to Scandinavia.

Look at the five themes of geography sheet that you have. Find one theme and show how it applies to Scandinavia.
