• 1080 decreases the number of native birds killed in NZ, because it kills possums, stoats and rats.
• Less than 80 herds of cows and deer are infected with TB.
• Less nest raids by pests mean chicks have a better chance of survival.
• If 1080 gets in the water it doesn't kill fish.
• Not as many trees will be destroyed by possums, stoats and ship rats.

BLACK HAT THINKING

• There is no antidote to 1080 poison.
• It can poison cats, dogs, deer, cows, pigs, birds, hedgehogs, bees and other insects if they eat 1080.
• An animal that has been poisoned can travel up to 5km before they die.
• It can be a very painful death.
• Very little 1080 can kill a 58 kg man.

RED HAT THINKING

• I think that we should get rid of 1080 because it kills animals that don't need to be killed such as dogs. We don't have to use 1080 to kill possums, ship rats and stoats, just send out some people with guns to kill them.
