One day when Karana's brother had went to the canyon to gather roots that grow it it, then they noticed a ship with red sails coming closer and closer to their island.

Captain Orlov and his men had come to the Island of the Blue Dolphins to hunt Sea Otter.

After their hunt, the Aleuts were towing many bales Sea Otter behind their boat.
