AUGUST, MOM, DAD, VIA, JULIAN, JACK, AND SUMMER.
The plot of the book is that August，a kid with a face deformity，learns how to deal with the way people look at him，and how they talk about him behind his back。It also how he gets through his first year of school after being home schooled for many years。
At the begining of the book August's mom forces August to go to school，at first August was angry and sad about having to go to school，but after a while August decided he would like school knowmatter what。

Before August started going to school he took a tour around the school。Jack，Charlotte，and Julian are the ones that showed him around the school。He also met Mr。Tushman that day。

learns that Julian is really a bully。An example is that at the end of the year Julian wrote unexcepteble notes to August，and got a two week suspension because of it。Julian did not apoligize，so he was not allowed back to Beecher Prep the next year。

During a movie on a camping trip for school，Jack and August snuck into the woods to go to the bathroom，where seventh graders found them and picked on August。But Jack
stood up for him，and Henry， Miles，and Amos，two of Julian's freinds，defended him。

Earlier on in the book Jack punched Julian because Julian told Jack "You don't need to be friends with that freak, we could be partners." Jack only got a two day suspension though because he apologized and meant it.
