FACTS OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

  • The official name is the "aurora borealis".
  • It has bright and dazzling displays in the sky .
  • The displays occur when gaseous particles collide
  • They can be seen from many places on earth.
  • They are normally visible nearly every night near the North Pole.

  • Auroras occur when changed particles from the sun's solar wind interact.
  • The northern lights can be visible as far south as Texas
  • The color of each aurora depends upon the gas particles they are busy jumping around
  • Some Inuit peoples believe that The auroras were the spirits of the animals they hunted

PLACES TO VIEW THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

  • You can see the northern light as far south as New Orleans
  • You can see them in north Canada.
  • You can also see them at the southern tip of Greenland
  • They can be see at the northern coast of Siberia
  • You can also see them over Northern Scandinavia.
