General Facts

  • Started in 5000 BC
  • Ended in 550 BC after The Persians take over. 
  • The meaning of Mesopotamia is The land between rivers
  • These rivers being the Tigris and the Euphrates
  • It is the first civilization with a recorded history

In modern day Iraq

SUMERIAN, ASSYRIAN, BABYLONIAN, AKKADIAN, URUK

  • The wheel
  • Iron, copper and other metals
  • The Archimedes Screw used in the hanging gardens of Babylon
  • Ziggurats and city walls
  • Canal Systems  for irrigation
