THE DESERT
In the old days The Egyptian desert was called The Red Land
This distinguished it from The Black Land
These colors reflect that the desert sand has a reddish hue
When the Nile flood waters go away the sand turns black

HOW THE NILE AFFECTED THE EGYPTIANS
The Nile delta is where the Nile flows out to and is very rich in agriculture
Around 40 million people (half of Egypt's population) live in the Nile delta
Egypt doesn't get very much rain so living by the river helps with crops

THE FLOOD
The Nile river floods every year and both helps and hurts the Egyptian people
It helps because the water brings fertile dirt with it to help crops
It also hurts crops though because when it floods it can destroy the crops
To combat this the Egyptians created the dam
They used the dam to regulate the water flow

TRADING
The Nile was also used for trading purposes
Egyptians would take a boat and sail on the river to trade with other countries
This was a lot faster and more efficient then walking through the desert
This also got them the resources that they couldn't get where they lived faster
The best thing about it was that everyone could trade even peasants
