HISTORY

  • Construction started in 1407, and ended in 1420.
  • There were were a total of 24 emperors from 1644-191.
  • Today the Palace Museum (The Forbidden City) has over 1 million relics.

LOCATION

  • The Forbidden City is in the central part of Beijing, China.
  • The Wu Gate is the formal southern entrance, it is also one of the tallest buildings.
  • The Forbidden City covers 178 acres, and is north of "Tienanmen Square"

Architecture

  • The most important buildings face south to hounor the sun
  • The city walls are 10 meters high, and it has a 52 meter wide moat!!
  • The city is in a rectangular shape and covers 720,000 square meters!
