WOMENS RIGHTS MOVEMENT

BY DANIELLA TERZO

Women's rights movements are primarily concerned with making the political, social, and economic status of women equal to that of men.

In the early 1800s, women were second-class citizens.

Women were expected to restrict in their circle of interest to the home and the family.

After marriage, women did not have the right to own their own property, keep their own wages, or sign a contract.

Women were not encouraged to obtain a real education or pursue a professional career.

In 1890 there were two groups that merged to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association.

The National Women's Suffrage Association argued that women deserved the same rights and responsibilities as men because they were “created equal".

Then the new generation of activists argued that women deserved to vote because they were different from men.

Finally in 1920 Women were allowed to vote all around the nation.
