HOW DO WE START?

TWITTER

CAN BE A GREAT PLN TOOL
I got a Twitter account and resolved to "learn" to use it by looking for a manual written for educators.

I FOLLOWED THESE STEPS

  • Learn their language (RTs, @replies)
  • Follow many people (at least 60)
  • Observe what they say
  • Jump in

1. CHOOSE AT LEAST 40 PEOPLE TO FOLLOW

Although that sounds like a large number, it really is not, as people do not tweet all the time (contrary to popular belief). I would even suggest following around 100 to start. You can find people to follow in directories, such as wefollow.com at first, but mainly by looking at a user's profile to see who they follow.

2. OBSERVE WHAT THEY TWEET

3. SEE HOW THEY INTERACT

with each other

4. LEARN THEIR LANGUAGE

AND FINALLY...

JUMP IN!
Just jump in. Tweet anything, but remember what you have observed and try to add value to the conversation. This method works for any Social Network. Just observe first, study it for a bit and then add your part.

WHAT??

I NEED TO SHOW MY THINGS?

YES, BUT YOU CAN START BY

  • Commenting on other people' tweets
  • Talking about things that went well (or bad) in your class
  • And finally, adding your own materials
  • Retweeting things you find interesting
  • Tweeting interesting things you read

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS

BE GENEROUS

TRY TO OVERCOME YOUR (NORMAL) FEARS

  • We don't want our work criticized
  • We may believe it can be "copied"
  • Time!!
  • We think we have nothing new to add
  • We feel it is not "good enough"

WE CREATED A CHALLENGE FOR OUR STUDENTS

  • We created an Instagram challenge for our students or anyone

WE WROTE BLOGS POSTS ABOUT IT
