JUSTINIANS RECONQUERS PARTS OF THE FALLEN ROMAN EMPIRE AND HOGIA SOFIA IS CONTUSTED 526 A.D

  • THE PARTS HE CONQUERED INCLUDED PARTS OF MODERN DAY AFRICA, ITALY, AND SPAIN .
  • This is important because the Hogia Sophia is one of the largest churches of the modern day
  • Also the land Justinian conquered is an example of the power of the Byzantine Empire

LOMBARDS INVADE ITALY, EVENTUALLY TAKING NORTHERN ITALY FROM THE BYZANTINES 568 A.D

  • This was the first major selection of land taken from the Byzantines
  • It is important because the Byzantines haven't lost major land

HERACLIUS BECOMES EMPEROR 610 A.D

  • Under his rule he changed the main language to greek
  • Becomes emperor while the Persian Empire is attempting the takeover of the Byzantine civilization

PERSIA IS CONQUERED BY BYZANTINE FORCES 627 AD

  • HERACLIUS RESIGNS UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 641 AD

  • Leo reconquers most of Asia Minor and greece

  • Vladimir took the throne of kiev
  • He considered converting to christianity

  • Vladimir accepted byzantine Christianity and had everyone in kiev baptized
  • Imported teachers for guidance and the connection between kiev and byzantine grew

  • Kiev's decline started with the death of yaroslav
  • Yaroslav while in power divided the realm amongst his sons
  • Trade also got disrupted due to the crusades a few years later

1480 AD

  • Ivan made a final break from the mongols
  • This liberated what we now know as russia from the mongol rule
