1. neurodegeneration

  • Regulation of neuronal RNA processing
  • Identification and characterisation of neuronal RNA-binding proteins
  • Proof-of-concept and pre-clinical development of novel RNA-based therapeutic strategies
  • Disease-associated genes of interest include MAPT, TARDBP, FUS and C9ORF72

2. neuromuscular disorders

  • Pre-clinical and clinical studies to develop antisense oligonucleotide-mediated exon skipping as a therapy for DMD
  • Biochemical characterisation of Becker muscular dystrophy
  • Function and therapeutic targeting of dystrophin in the brain
  • RNA processing of the DMD gene
