DEFINITION

  • The Straw Man fallacy is when when a person ignores reality and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position.

Straw Man is used all the time. Its used in commercials, magazine ads, and in everyday arguments. Its a fallacy because you don't want to seem irrational to your audience. Things that apply to smaller instances do not necessarily apply to larger ones. It will discredit your entire argument if you are called out.
