ISAAC NEWTON

  • He was born January 4, 1643, in Woolsthorpe, England.
  • He was the only son of Isaac Newton, who died before he was born.
  • He attended Kings school, University of Cambridge, & Trinity College.
  • Isaac reunited with his mother when he was 12.
  • He had 3 step siblings, due to his step father.

THE WORLD NEWS

  • the Great Plague made its way to Cambridge, forcing Newton to return home to study.
  • Newton then experienced the inspiration of gravity with the falling apple.
  • Newton retuned to college in 1667 and continued studies.
  • Newton published "Philosophia naturalis principia mathematica" in 1687.
  • Sadly Isaac Newto died March 31, 1727.

IMPORTANCE

  • He was important to the mathematical world because...
  • His works on physics and mathematics completed the scientific revolution of the 17th century.
  • He came up with newtons laws, which are the laws of motion.
  • He published the Philosophia naturalis principia mathematica which summarizes his research.
  • He is now known as the father of modern physics, b/c of all of his great accomplishments.

  • Sir Isaac Newton was not expected to live.
  • His father died 3 months before Newton was born.
  • His dog set his laboratory on fire, ruining 20 years of research.
  • Newton almost became a farmer when he was 17.
  • Newton actually studied for a degree in law.
