What is a Geological Hazard?

It is a natural geological event that can endanger humans and threaten infrastructures.

Untitled Slide

EARTHQUAKE
- refers to the vibration of the Earth's surface caused by movement along a fault, by a volcanic eruption, or by manmade explosions.

VOLCANIC ERUPTION
- a volcano is a vent at the Earth's surface through which magma and associated gases erupt, and also the cone built by eruptions. Most volcanoes occur along the boundaries of the Earth's crustal plates, where magma from within the Earth's crust reaches the surface.

EROSION
- when soil is eroded by wind, water and other natural agents. Not only does the action of moving water itself erode soil and rock, sediment transported by running water abrades the surfaces that the water contacts. As these materials are swept along by the water, they grind against one another and any surface they contact.
