The ancient carnival of Maracatu drumming and dancing is originated in the State of Pernambuco, Brazil, specifically in the cities of Recife and Olinda. There are two main types of maracatu, maracatu de nação (nation-style maracatu) and maracatu rural (rural-style maracatu).This is one of the three largest carnival celebrations in the country, together with Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.
