Gravity is a force that pulls objects towards each
The force of gravity between objects increases with greater mass.
And increases with greater distance.Mass is the amount of matter
in an object.(SI unit is the kilogram).Weight is the force of gravity on
an object.Triple beam balance,A weight scale,Grams.Weight=
Mass x Acceleration due to gravity acceleration due to gravity on
Earth=9.8m/s2 For example: a 50 Kg person weighs 50kg x 9.8m/
s2=4901.980 N2.=68,600N
What is a force? A force is a push.Like velocity and Acceleration , force is a
vector quantity(it has a magnitude and direction)
The SI unit for force is the Newton (N)
Use an arrow (-------->) to show the direction and strength.
Usually more than one force acts on an object at the same
time.It is necessary to combine all the forces acting on an
object.The net,or total,force is a combination of all the
forces acting on an object.
Two forces acting in the same direction produce a larger
force
Balanced Forces do Not cause a change in the objects
velocity.
Forces are important for life and the things you do like texting!
newtons are the force needed to accelerate one kilogram of mass at the rate of one Meter per second.Mesures (CGPM) resolution 2 standardized the unit of force in the MKS system of units to be the amount needed to accelerate 1 kilogram of mass at the rate of 1 metre per second squared.resolution 7 adopted the name "newton" for this force.The MKS system then became the blueprint for today's SI system of units. The newton thus became the standard unit of force in the SI), or International System of Units.
This SI unit is named after Isaac Newton. As with every International System of Units (SI) unit named for a person, the first letter of its symbol is upper case (N). However, when an SI unit is spelled out in English, it should always begin with a lower case letter (newton)—except in a situation where any word in that position would be capitalized, such as at the beginning of a sentence or in material using title case. Note that "degree Celsius" conforms to this rule because the "d" is lowercase.— Based on The International System of Units, section 5.2.
Newton's second law of motion states that F = ma, where F is the force applied, m is the mass of the object receiving the force, and a is the acceleration of the object. The newton is therefore:
F = m ⋅ a
1 N = 1 kg ⋅ m/s2
where the following symbols are used for the units:
N: newton
Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other.There are several types of friction:
Dry friction resists relative lateral motion of two solid surfaces in contact. Dry friction is subdivided into static friction ("stiction") between non-moving surfaces, and kinetic friction between moving surfaces.
Fluid friction describes the friction between layers of a viscous fluid that are moving relative to each other.
Lubricated friction is a case of fluid friction where a lubricant fluid separates two solid surfaces.
Skin friction is a component of drag, the force resisting the motion of a fluid across the surface of a body.
Internal friction is the force resisting motion between the elements making up a solid material while it undergoes deform
Forces occur in pairs and can be either balanced or unbalanced. Balanced forces do not cause a change in motion. They are equal in size and opposite in direction.
Have you ever had an arm wrestling competition with someone? If you compete against someone who is just about as strong as you are, there will probably be a time when both of you are pushing as hard as you can, but your arms stay in the same place. This is an example of balanced forces. The force exerted by each person is equal, but they are pushing in opposite directions, in this case together.
Because the force that each of you is exerting is equal, the two forces cancel each other out and the resulting force is zero. Therefore, there is no change in motion.
Another great place to see balanced forces in action is in a tug of war. This is similar to an arm wrestling match, only in this case the forces are moving away from each other. Just like in arm wrestling, if the two teams have equal strength, or force, the rope will stay pretty much in the same place.
Again the resulting force is zero and there is no change in motion.
Unlike balanced forces, unbalanced forces always cause a change in motion. They are not equal and opposite.
