PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WAKA RIDE

BY MATILDA

We hoped on to the Waka. It was rocking a little as everyone stepped on to it and the weights were a bit unbalanced that is why it was wobbly. It was a bit scary when you were sitting down. Jim the boat man stared the Waka. When we set off we were going quite slow but we soon caught up everytime we paddled we had to chant Tukihi, Tukihi, Tukihi. Now and then we had to lift out paddles into the air and chant the boys haka.

We paddled on, it was so exiting, basically all my nerves had gone but there was only one or two. I had so much fun chanting and paddling. There was so much Maori words being said. We paddled and paddled chanted and chanted. I actually could not believe it was really happening becuase we were supossed to go to it on camp and I never thought I would get another chance. We went under the bridge, you could hear the cars go over top.

People stared from every direction. We kept on paddling. We started to turn but very faintly we kept on paddling even though we were turning, we ended up fully turned it went so smoothly. You did not even notice we were turning. That's how calm and easy it is. We paddled forward. It was a bit harder becuase we were paddling againsty current but, the current was not that strong.

By that time, we had finished the drill. The drill was that we turned our paddles over and paddled backwards. I actually thought were supossed to be going forward for a second. But it was fun overall. Then we started paddling back. We went slow at first and same as before we kept getting faster and faster. I am so happy becuase it sure was a great experience.
