Has Arrived at HCOS!
Mystery Science is a site with “open-and-go lessons that inspire kids to love science”, geared to grades K-5.
Every lesson begins with a Mystery that hooks your students. Then there is narration of an unforgettable story with stunning images and videos, and punctuated with opportunities for discussion.
Every lesson concludes with simple hands-on activities designed to use supplies you already have (or are easy to get).
Contact your HCOS support teacher to have mysteries assigned to your students.

This animated, award-winning online resource provides hundreds of animated curriculum-based movies covering topics in Science, Social Studies, Math, English, Arts and Music, Health, and Technology with the core content targeted for grades K-8. (Some content is helpful to high school students, as well.) Following each movie clip students have the opportunity to participate in quizzes, cartoons, and do-it-yourself experiments and with the click of a button, the quiz result can be forwarded to your support teacher.

he Curio.ca platform gives teachers and grade 8-12 students streaming access to the best in educational content from CBC and Radio-Canada. You will find documentaries from television and radio, news reports, archival material, stock shots and kids shows. Curriculum resources are available for all grades, including French and English language content, but most is geared to high school level. There is also closed captioning for hearing impaired. National Geographic films are also available, including awesome documentaries on many topics. Educational content is correlated to the new British Columbia curriculum.

Students Can Now Complete Intro Lessons 
In September 2016 the new BC Curriculum brought in coding as a mandatory course for all students in Grades 6-9, 10-12, and as an introductory course in years below.

JavaScript 101 (for Gr. 8-10; pre-requisite: Tynker basic courses)
Python 101 (for Gr. 8-10; pre-requisite: Tynker basic courses)
Drones 101 (for Gr. 6-10; 9-lesson drone programming course)
Coding with LEGO WeDo (for Gr. 5-7; program the Lego WeDo 2.0 Smart Hub & sensors using Tynker–Note that you will need the LEGO WeDo kit with the Smart Hub.)
