Copy of Becoming You

Why we all would benefit by paying more attention to becoming who we really are rather than worrying so much about the roles we play in life. That is we need to pay more attention to the "who" rather than the "what" when we are becoming.

Becoming You

Why become "WHO" you wish to be in life

What or Who?

  • WHAT you want to be is what your teachers or parents ask of you.
  • WHO you wish to become in life is all about your purpose.

Asking "WHAT" gives roles

  • Educator
  • Pioneer
  • Musician
  • Life saver
  • And other examples of society's roles

But asking "WHO" gives examples of the kind of people who can best fill those roles.

Examples of "Who" are

  • Tolerant
  • Loving
  • Courageous
  • Caring
  • And similar traits

For example, becoming a company CEO is great. But being the kind of person who makes a great CEO is better.

So what happens if you follow the WHAT and neglect the WHO?

“People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find out, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall.”

The "ladder" quote was from Thomas Merton, the writer and mystic, who was clearly divinely inspired on what it might have felt like!
