Day 1

This is how the egg is before incubation starts.

The blue pocket is the air space.

The yellow is the yolk and it contains the germinal spot. The germinal spot is what will develop into a duckling.

The green ropelike cords are the Chalaza. They hold the yolk in the center of the egg.

The light blue part is the albumen. It provides nutrients for the growing bird.

Day 5

The heart and veins are formed and can be seen.

A waste sac is not visible here but is developed by day 4.

Day 8

The heart is now inside the body. The head and eye are well developed.

Day 12

The feet, wings, and bill are formed. The waste sac has grown as it collects waste.

Day 27

The feathers continue to grow. The duckling is formed and moves within the shell.

The air sac has grown as the water inside the egg is used.

Day 28

The duckling uses its egg tooth to break into the air sac. Then it cuts through the shell and crawls out.
