The perpetuity of OERs offers: - ability to continually update as needed - ongoing access for past students/alumni, as material is not retired and can be found easily at a later date - opportunities for lifelong learning and revision on demand.
OER grants academics greater freedom over the materials they use; e.g. giving them the power to adapt and adjust materials developed and shared by others. It also provides more opportunities for the development of our own materials, for which we can dictate the terms of use and can easily update ourselves. This is great for just-in-time teaching models. Also provides opportunities for collaboration with community and professional organisations to update and share materials.

Is learning just about reading textbooks and listening to lectures? What about the human interactions that happen outside of those activities?
Content is no longer the be-all and end-all of quality education. There are more skills to be learned than how to consume content and regurgitate answers in essays or exams.
