PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ELEMENTS OF MUSIC

Duration
Duration is how long a note is held on for. For example quavers, crotchets and minimums count the speed and beat of each note.

Dynamics
Dynamics is the volume of the music. It decides how loud it is. Examples of this are Forte meaning loud, Piano meaning quiet.

You can make Piano and Forte and little different by adding Mezzo before it. It means it would be medium quiet or medium loud. There is also pianissimo and fortissimo which is extremely loud, or quiet.

Pitch
Pitch is the tone, for how high or low the note is. If you found an A on a keyboard, and tuned it up a octave, you would be changing the pitch.

Structure
The structure is the way a music piece is set out. A popular structure is Intro, verse A, chorus, verse b, bridge, middle eight c, outro.

Tempo,
Tempo is the speed or pace of the music. Usually above a piece there is an Italian word about the tempo or mood of the song.

Texture
This shows whether the piece has short and bouncy notes, or long smooth notes.

Timbre
This is the difference between playing notes in difference instruments, in other words, distinguish it. For example if someone played a C on a piano and a C on the guitar.
