PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
FINAL PROJECT
BY THOMAS WIMBERLY
2.
PART 1
FINDING AN EQUATION FOR POINTS (2,8) AND (12,26)
3.
THE QUADRATIC
Using the points (2,8)(12,26)(-12,-5)
I found a quadratic equation to model this senario
It is Y=.036X^2+1.29X+5.27
4.
THE EXPONENTIAL
To find an exponential equation two points are nesesary
I used (2,8) and (12,24)
The exponential function that goes through these to points is
Y=6.3*1.12^X
5.
LINEAR EQUASION
Like an exponential equation a linear requires just 2 points
For the points of (2,8) and (12,26) the linear equation is
Y=1.8x+4.4
6.
RATIONAL EQUASION
When a variable is put in the denominator of a fraction
it becomes a rational equasion. A rational equation that goes
through points, (2,8) and (12,26) is, Y=(-43.19/X)+29.6
7.
A PROBLEM
In February there are 8 hippos on an island, by December
there are 26 hippos on the island. There is an unlimited food supply
and no predators on the island.
The exponential function will model this best as each hippo will help
the population grow further, just as exponential equations grow at ever Increasing rates.
8.
THE PROBLEM (CONTINUED)
For example if X=20 it would represent
August of the next year. At that time there would be
60 hippos on the island, and one that is is 7/10 through
her pregnancy.

B
When a function is multiplied out in
Standard form it becomes much harder to shift
as there are multiple x and there is no easy way to
Directly change one aspect of the x.
