  • It is a drug made from dried and shredded leaves, stems, and flowers from the Cannabis plant.
  • It's is a schedule 1 substance and has a high potential for abuse.
  • The drug contains THC.

How is it taken?

  • Marijuana is taken in 3 forms
  • In the plant form of dry leaves, stems , and flowers through a joint or bong
  • In hashish form, mixed with tobacco in some cigarettes
  • In hash oil, put in foods like brownies or cookies

Effects of Marijuana

  • Short Term Effects:
  • Sensory distoration
  • Panic & Anxiety
  • Poor Condition of Movement
  • Lowered Reaction Time
  • After the initial "high," user feels sleepy or depressed.
  • Increased heartbeat

  • Long Term Effects:
  • Reduced resistance to common illnesses
  • Growth disorders
  • reduction of male hormones
  • Study Difficulties (reduced ability to study and retain info)
  • Drowsiness, lack of motivation
  • Personality and mood changes

Side Effects

  • Has been shown to slow progression of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Can prevent epileptic seizures
  • Hallucinations
  • Can slow down the spread of cancer
  • Feel loss of identity
  • Experience anxiety

Factors that Lead to Abuse

  • 9% of users become addicted
  • Higher rate of becoming addicted if the user starts early & those who use daily

Legal Risks

  • There are not many risks because the drug is becoming legal in some states for medical use and in some are having it completely legal.
  • If caught with any form of the drug, the person just has to pay a fine.
  • Some fines are between $1500-$200,000 dollars (depends if you are in possession or selling it, especially if you're selling it to minors)
