Lung Cancer

Definition: Cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.

Risk factors

  • Smoking (can control)
  • Genetics (can't control)
  • Asbestos Exposure (can't control)
  • Radon Exposure (can't control)

How is it diagnosed?

CT scans can reveal what is wrong in your lungs that might not show up in X-Rays.

Signs of The Disease

Constant/ worsening cough, Chest Pains, Coughing up blood 

How is it treated?
By chemotherapy and radiotherapy

Prevention:

  • Don't smoke!
  • Get your home tested for radon.
  • Eat a good diet and exercise daily.

Statistics:

  • 30% of all cancer deaths are caused by smoking.
  • More men are diagnosed with the disease but more women are living with the disease.
