140 pounds of pure uranium, 9,700 ponds of pure mass. These numbers do not compare to 140,000. 140,000 is not just a number, it is how many lives were taken on August 6, 1945 by "little boy". "Little boy" is an atomic bomb purely made to cause destruction and used with the hope it would end the Great War, which it succeeded in doing. News began going around the world that there was a new type of weapon which had the power to end World War II, which had raged on for six years. This news is what began the rush to make more of these weapons, just in case another Great War were to occur, or even if there was going to be a common enemy. The world was amazed by the strength and lethality America showed. How does mass destruction of human life inspire other countries to want to get their hands on the weapon that is an atomic bomb? World War II ended 60 million lives. The atomic bomb ended 140,000 lives and created peace. Once the bomb made contact the war was over and conflicts stopped. While The peace that the bomb had created was not everlasting it lingered for a long time. Does this excuse the lives added to the death count of WW II by Little boy? The bomb created a new conflict between countries. The world felt it was too much power for one country to have. But who should be allowed to have the power? Countries raced to make their own atomic bombs and the world was forever changed. So whether it be a bomb that was used to end a war, or alien overlords coming to earth and becoming the new governing powers, change plays a huge part in the world and how it runs. Every four to eight year we change who represents our country, we change laws constantly, and we change what we believe. As human beings we change over time, our attitude, maturity, character, physical appearance, and voices all change as we spend more and more years on this planet. Change can be seen as good or bad, for people, countries and the world. Change is inevitable, how we as humans handle change is what defines us as individuals, groups, populations and as the human race.
