2 Corinthians 9:6-11

2 Corinthians 9:6-11
New Living Translation (NLT)

6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”[a] 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9 As the Scriptures say,

“They share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”[b]
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity[c] in you.

11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.

Making Money Honestly

1. The Habit of
Now this should be a no-brainer to all of us but just in case it’s not – God doesn’t bless cheaters. He doesn’t bless people who deceive and He certainly doesn’t bless people who are thieves.

Managing Money Wisely

2. The Habit of
Let me give you one of my absolute favorite verses from Proverbs. I love this verse because it can be applied to so many different circumstances in our lives including the way we manage money

Basics

you need to know about your money daily

How much
is coming in?

How much
is going out?

How much
do you have
in reserve?

How much
are you setting aside
for the future?

Proverbs 27:23-24

Proverbs 27:23-24New Living Translation (NLT)

23 Know the state of your flocks,
and put your heart into caring for your herds,
24 for riches don’t last forever,
and the crown might not be passed to the next generation.

Spending Money Deliberately

3. The Habit of
What am I talking about here? I’m talking about living with a budget or a spending plan. I’m talking about having a plan for how you spend your money (the money God has entrusted to you).

Dangers

of Debt

Compounding interest
works against you
rather than for you.

It's a trap
in that getting in takes
no effort
but getting out is
incredibly difficult.

It mortgages your future
(the first priority
of every future dollar
is to repay debt).

Saving Money Consistently

4. The Habit of
Let me tell you the number one rule of financial freedom from a purely secular standpoint – spend less than you earn. If you can’t master that rule you’ll never be financially free. You need to spend less than you earn and then save the rest.

but fools spend whatever they get.

Giving Money Generously

5. The Habit of
Now, without doubt, this is the most important habit of financial freedom. And I’m not saying that because I’m your pastor and I’m thinking about the annual budget. I’m saying that because of what the Bible says. Let me make it real simple – listen close. If you want God’s blessing on your finances (is that something you want) then you need to give Him first place in your finances

Proverbs 3:9-10New Living Translation (NLT)

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the best part of everything you produce.
10 Then he will fill your barns with grain,
and your vats will overflow with good wine.
