MyPlate.gov

  • My Plate is a government recommendation
  • Includes 5 food groups 
  • Grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, dairy
  • More than 1/4 should be vegetables

What Type of GRAINS?

  • Whole grains - brown rice & wild rice
  • Whole grains - whole wheat bread  
  • Whole grains - whole wheat pasta
  • Refined grains - spaghetti & macaroni
  • Refined grains - crackers & flour tortillas

What counts?

  • bread - white or wheat
  • crackers, pretzels, pita bread & tortillas  
  • rice - white or brown
  • cereal - rolled oats, oatmeal &  barley
  • pasta - spaghetti, macaroni

Why whole grains?

  • Lower risk of diabetes
  • B vitamins provide energy 
  • Whole grains are full of fiber
  • May reduce the risk of heart disease
  • Full of B vitamins & minerals

Make at least half of your grains whole grains
