BANKSY & TITIAN

BY:HENRY

Renaissance artist: Titian

Modern artist: Banksy

Sometimes Banksy would edit his own pieces as well as other graffiti artists.

TITIAN
At the age of 9 he left home with his brother, Francesco, to work in Venice for the mosaicist, Sebastiano Zuccati

My renaissance artist is Titian. He was born around around 1488 to 27 August, 1576. I chose Titian because he used very dark colors which I think makes you study his work more closely, I like that his proportions were very accurate and life like. The way he uses color to create texture and shape to clothing is very detailed. The physical features have wonderful colors, although the subjects always seem to be very serious, with almost no flaws.

My modern artist is "Banksy". Real name, unknown. D.O.T, unknown. Birthplace, England. Active as an artist for the last 20 years. I chose Banksy because I think graffiti is one one of the most exciting new forms of art. The majority of his work is very stark in black and white which I like. A lot of his work is influenced by social and political events, unemployment, violence, gay rights etc. His work has very clear defined lines and he works on many different bases, concrete, metal, tarmac, etc., so there is a huge range of different textures, to his work. His facial expressions are normally quite intense which draws you to look more closely. His work is being called appropriation. Which is when you look at his Mona Lisa with the bazooka, he's using Renaissance work and modernizing them.

My 2 artists cover a 500 year gap. I think they are both very detailed artists each one showing the time period that they worked in. Titian' work is either very formal or completely imaginary and Banksy's shows us that we have information available from all around the world at the touch of a button. There is a lot more humor in Banksy's work because he does not have the social restrictions that existed in Titian's time.
