The Andromeda Galaxy is the closest galaxy to our own. It is a spiral galaxy and 2.5 million light years away. The Andromeda Galaxy is one trillion years old. The Andromeda is home to 400 billion solar masses as well a one trillion stars.

The Andromeda Galaxy has 35 black holes. They are told to be created when a massive star collapsed. The black holes are 5 to 10 times the mass of the sun. The Andromeda was created when two smaller galaxies collided.

The Andromeda Galaxy was named after the princess Andromeda. Her mother thought that Andromeda was the most beutiful princess ever. Andromeda married Perseus and had many children. Eventually she turned into a constellation, the Andromeda constellation.

It is predicted that in about 4.5 billion years the Andromeda and the Milky Way will collide. The Andromeda is approaching the Milky Way at approximately 100 to 140 kilometers per second. The Andromeda is the farthest thing you can see with your naked eye.
