THE THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT.

Judicial, Legislative and Executive Branch.

Judicial Branch

Supreme Court Justices

  • There is 9 Supreme Court Justices.
  • The President Appoints the Justices.
  • The Justices serve until death or until they resign.

Judicial Review

  • The Supreme Court's power to examine laws.
  • They can cancel laws if they violate the Constitution.
  • This started in 1803.
  • The Senate makes appointment for the a Supreme Court.

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH

CONGRESS' MAIN JOB IS TO MAKE LAWS.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

  • This house is made up of 435 members.
  • The amount of members is based off of the state population.
  • House Members serve 2 years and must at least 25 years old.

THE SENATE

  • This house is made up of 100 members.
  • There is 2 members per state.
  • Senate serves 6 years and you must be 30 years old.
  • Members of BOTH houses must represent their constitutents.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH

The President

  • In order to run for President you must:
  • -A U.S. Citizen.
  • -35 years of age.
  • -Must be a resident of the United States for 14 years.
  • The President can serve a maximum total of two 4 year terms

JOBS OF THE PRESIDENT

  • Chief Executive- Responsible for carrying out the nation's laws.
  • Chief Diplomat- Directs foreign policies and negotiates with other nations.
  • Commander in Chief- Uses military to intervene with crisis situations.
  • Chief of State- A symbolic symbolic role representing all Americans.
  • Legislative Leader- Proposes laws to Congress and works with their passage.

THE PRESIDENTS CABINET

  • A group of people that help the presidents make decisions.
  • They also help set government policies.
  • Examples: Department of State and Department of Interior.
