COVENANT WITH NOAH

  • The Flood was a divine punishment for prideful ambition.
  • God entered into an everlasting covenant with Noah,his descendants, and "every living creature", .
  • This covenant proposed to unify all God's children into one family through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • It also promised to never again destroy the earth with a flood.

COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM

  • God called him out of his land,gave him a new name, and promised him many descendants.
  • Abraham, the Patriarch, became the father of faith for the Jewish people
  • Also became a Spiritual father for all believers of our Ancestry with God's people
  • Circumcision was a sign of the covenant with Abraham to set descendants a part as God's people
  • The Chosen People,called to prepare for that day when God would gather all his children into the unity of the Church

COVENANT WITH MOSES

  • Aka, the Sinai Covenant, God formed Israel as his people
  • On Mt. Sinai, God revealed his name as YHWH- "I AM WHO AM"
  • Jewish people substituted YHWH with Adonai or "My Lord"
  • God gave the Chosen People his Law to help people recognize and serve him
  • This helped them look forward to the coming of the Promised Savior

KINGS AND PROPHETS

  • God promised the Israelites their own land in Canaan which was then ruled by King David
  • After Solomon's rule, God sent prophets to help form his people away from sin and towards Salvation
  • The prophets were men like, Elijah,Ezekiel,Isaiah, and Jeremiah
  • They "proclaim a radical redemption of the People of God,purification from all their infidelities,
  • A salvation which will include all nations"

WISDOM LITERATURE

  • God inspired bodies of writings of proverbs,riddles,stories,warnings, and questions to serve as a guide.
  • The Book if Psalms, a collection of prayers to God, is an essential part of Wisdom Literature
  • The Psalms praise God for his creation and for the great things he did for the chosen people
  • The psalms share the hope the God will finally triumph,restore Israel among the nations, and right all wrongs
  • Psalms tell of the future Messiah

JESUS CHRIST: THE NEW COVENANT

  • Climax of Salvation History is the entrance of Jesus Christ into the World.
  • Jesus Christ is God's total Word, his fullest Revelation
  • John baptized Jesus and recognized that he was the Messiah
  • His passion,Death,Resurrection, and Ascension finalized our Salvation
  • Jesus said to Philip, "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father" (Jn 14:9)
