ODYSSEY TIMELINE

LAUREN SCOTT

The cicones
Men go to shore for supplies, raid a town & take women & children. The cicones army comes & attacks them. They hold on & leave without benches on each ship empty.

The lotus eaters
They came because of curiosity, his men found the people & their plant. The lotus flower makes the eater loose any interest of leaving or going back.

Cyclops
Odyssey goes to the island of curiosity. He & his me meet ployphemust & get trapped in his cave. Odysseus blinds the cyclops & leave under the sheep to their ships. As they leave Odysseus taunts the cyclops & tells him his name which then makes the cyclops curse him & his men. Odysseus looses his men & makes his journey more difficult.

Island of Aeolus
Aeolus, god of the winds, gives Odysseus a bag of bad winds to help him get home safely. His crew disobey orders and open the bag.

Laestrygonians
The Laestrygonians were giant cannibals who ate any sailors or people that happened to land or get close enough to be eaten.

Island of Circe
Having escaped the Cyclops, Odysseus and his men arrive at the home of Aeolus, where they are greeted warmly and hosted for a month. Eager to move on, Odysseus receives an ox-skin pouch from Aeolus. In it are captured all the winds that might drive the ships off course. Odysseus falls asleep, his men get curious and opens the ox-skin pouch, which releases the winds and blows them back to Aeolus.

The land of dead
Circe tells Odysseus what rights he must perform to bring Teiresias up from the dead.

Circes island 2
Circe warns odysseus of the dangers to come as well as that his men will die by eating the sun gods cattle.

Sirens
The sirens threatened the lives of Odysseus's men so he had wax put in their ears and had them sail past the island while he wanted to hear the sirens song, so he was tied to the mast of the ship so he couldn't turn the ship around and kill them all.

Scylla and Charybdis
Six of his men are eaten as they head out to sea by Scylla. Odysseus and his ship avoid Charybdis.

Sun god (Helios)
When the sun god Odysseus and his crew landed on that island, he ordered his men not to get close or touch the cattle which is a promise they broke when hunger hit the land. They sacrificed one of the finest cattle and feasted on it. They were later heavily punished by Zeus.

Calypso's island
Calypso thinks Odysseus will forget about his name and family and stay with her but, his crew/the gods make him leave.

The land of Phaeacians
This is the last place visited by Odysseus before returning home. The princess of Phaeacians develops a crush on him and her father king of Phaeacians gives Odysseus a magic ship on which he can sail home to Ithaca.
