THE GREAT DEPRESSION: FACTS

  • Occurred on October 29, 1929 "Black Tuesday"
  • President during the time: Herbert Hoover
  • Ended when the US was lead into WWII
  • New Deal: plan to get everyone out of the slump and back to normality
  • President during the New Deal was Franklin D Roosevelt

THE DOMINO EFFECT

THE DUST BOWL

  • The southern part of America barely receives rainfall,
  • They have light soil and strong winds, very destructive combination
  • Light soil was pick up by the strong winds causing dust clouds known as "black blizzards"
  • The winds chocked cattle and pasture lands
  • Driving 60% of the population away from the region

THE NEW DEAL

  • Responsible: Franklin Roosevelt
  • Provide jobs for unemployed people
  • WPA: Works Progress Administration
  • Social Security Act: pensions to millions of Americans
  • Welfare, CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps).

OVERALL

  • There wasn't one main reason why the Great Depression occurred, there were many things that caused it
