ABOUT SAS

  • is a regiment of the British Army constituted on 31 May 1950;
  • It is part of the UKSF and has served as a model for the special forces of many other countries all over the world.
  • The Special Air Service presently comprises 22 Special Air Service Regiment of the Regular Army,
  • 21 Special Air Service Regiment and 23 Special Air Service Regiment from the Territorial Army;
  • It is tasked primarily with counter-terrorism in peacetime and special operations in wartime.

ABOUT SAS

  • Active: 1 January 1947 - present;
  • Country: United Kingdom;
  • Size: ~1000 - three Regiments;
  • Garisson: Hereford;
  • Colours: Pompadour Blue.

ENGAGEMENTS

  • Iraq war;
  • War in Afghanistan;
  • Operation Ellamy (Lybia);
  • NATO intervention in Bosnia;
  • Northern Irish Troubles.

HISTORY

  • formed by Lieutenant David Stirling;
  • The unit was staffed by volunteers from the airborne forces
  • to conduct raids and sabotage behind enemy lines in North Africa.

21&23 SAS REGIMENT

  • Support and influence of the British armed Forces.

22 SAS REGIMENT

  • anti-revolutionary and anti-terrorist campaign;
  • Security operations.
