PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SPACE

"THE FINAL FRONTIER"

Space is all of the area between objects.
However Outer space is the the void that exists between celestial bodies.

THE MILKY WAY

  • The Milky Way is the galaxy that our sun and us are in.
  • Including the sun there are about 300 billion stars in the Milky Way.
  • The center of the Milky Way is probably a supermassive black hole.
  • We are 27,000 light years away from the center of the Milky Way.
  • The diameter of the Milky Way is 100,000 - 120,000 light years.

BLACKHOLES

  • A black hole is a large gravitational force that pulls everything into it.
  • It has such a strong pull that it even pulls light into it.
  • At the center of the Milky Way there is a massive black hole that effects radio transmissions.
  • Actually most galaxies have super massive black holes in their center.
  • Black holes are the remains of former stars 15 time larger than our sun.

Earth is our home planet. It is 75% water and 25% land. It's the third planet from the sun. In Latin earth means Terra. It has about 7.1 billion humans live on earth. It has a hydrogen oxygen atmosphere. It is about 4.5 billion years old. It has one natural satellite, the moon.

The Moon was a large asteroid that collided with earth a long time ago. It is the only other natural space object that humans have set foot on. It's average surface temperature is 220 degrees Kelvin.

This is a picture of the moon during a lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse happens when the sun goes between the earth and the moon. The moon usually looks red during a lunar eclipse.

This is a full solar eclipse in 1999. A solar eclipse happens when the moon comes between the earth and the sun. A full solar eclipse is rare because the moon usually doesn't come totally between the earth and the sun.

OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

  • In order from closest to farthest from the sun the planets are:
  • Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, Pluto.
  • Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system.
  • Pluto is the smallest planet. It is a dwarf planet. But it's still a planet.
  • Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. It's named after Aphrodite.

Using new technology like this space shuttle we must seek out new life and new civilization (and space objects).
