PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MERCURY

  • One day=58 earth days
  • One year=88days
  • It has no moons
  • Distance from sun=57.9k

MERCURY FACTS

  • If you weigh 100lb on earth you would weigh 37lb on mercury
  • It is the most iron rich planet in our solar system
  • Its surface if heavily cratered

VENUS

  • One day=243 earth days
  • One year=.165 days
  • It is 108,208,930 km from the sun
  • It has no moons

VENUS FACTS

  • The clouds of Venus is filled with sulfuric acid
  • It has higher mountains the earth does
  • Its atmosphere is made up mostly of carbon dioxide

EARTH

  • One day=24 hours
  • One year=365 days
  • It has one moon
  • It is 149,597,890 km from the sun

EARTH FACTS

  • The Earth weighs 6,588,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons
  • The earth rotates on its axis more slowly in March than in September
  • The temperature of the Earth's interior increases by 1 degree every 60 feet down

MARS

  • One day=one earth days
  • One year=687 earth days
  • It has two moons
  • It is 227,936,640 km from the sun

MARS FACTS

  • A year on mars I twice as long as it if on earth.
  • Mars outshines every other planet apart from Venus
  • In winter, nighttime temperatures on Mars can drop as low as -191°

JUPITER

  • One day=.41354 earth days
  • One year=11 earth years
  • It has 66 mons
  • It is 778,340,821 km from the sun

JUPITER FACTS

  • Jupiter's volume is large enough to contain 1,300 planets the size of Earth
  • Jupiter rotates faster than any planet in the Solar Systems war
  • Jupiter is covered by an ocean of hydrogen with a sludge-like consistency

SATURN

  • One day=.444 earth days
  • One year=29 earth years
  • It has 62 moons
  • It is 1,426,666,422 km from the sun

SATURN FACTS

  • Saturn's rings are made up of billions of pieces of rocks and dust
  • Galileo was the first astronomer to observe Saturn's rings
  • Titan is also larger than the planet Mercury

NEPTUNE

  • One day=.671earth dys
  • One year=164 earth years
  • It has 14 moons
  • It is 4,498,396,441 km from the sun

NEPTUNE FACTS

  • Neptune is so far away that it took the space probe Voyager 2, 12 years to reach it
  • Neptune is 30 times farther from the sun as is the Earth
  • Neptune is a sea blue color due to the methane gas in its atmosphere

URANUS

  • One day=.718 earth days
  • One year=85 years
  • It has 27 moons
  • It is 2,870,658,186 km from the sun

URANUS FACTS

  • Uranus mass is more than 14 times larger than Earth
  • Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system
  • It is the second least dense planet after Saturn

SUN

  • The sun is basically just a massive star.
  • Another big ball of burning gas, except this
  • one has its own gravitational pull.
  • The sun is ten million degrees on the surface.
  • Since the sun is a star, it will eventually blow up.

THE ASTROID BELT

  • An astroid belt are actually just rocks that
  • Lay in between the orbit of mars and Jupiter.
  • It is hard to see because it is made of mostly small stuff.
  • Part of it may have hit earth in the past.

ASTROID BELT

KUIPER BELT

  • This is part of our universe where it is shaped more like
  • an eclipse.
  • It consists of mostly comets.
  • It is about 50AU away from the sun

HALEY'S COMET

  • Haley's comet is a big peace of rock
  • orbiting the sun
  • Edmund Halley discovered the comet in 1705
  • After he saw it, he predicted that it would come around
  • again because of Newton's first law, witch it did
