WRITING WITH SIMILES AND METAPHORS
Remember, metaphors are not simple comparisons using 'like' or 'as'. One way to write a metaphor is to compare unlike things using 'is' or 'are'.
Steps
1. Write a list of adjectives to describe how the old man feels:
miserable, tired, lonely, sad, cold, forgotten
2. List some unlike things to match these adjectives:
a lifeboat, a deserted island, the last bus home, the Titanic
3. Write a descriptive sentence using metaphor by putting an adjective with an unlike thing.
Example: Danny gazed out at the rain feeling lonelier than a lifeboat lost at sea.
