PICK YOUR STYLE

SOLO OR GROUP?
If you like to work in a group, we recommend doing the PREP with others. You will fill out the scoresheet separately, but working through the materials and case scenarios with a group of peers is a great way to learn.

If you want to work solo, it's a little less complicated because you don't have to schedule in the group meeting time.

You can also do the self-assessment and PDP with a group...as long as you fill in and save your own completed forms.

SCHEDULE SOME TIME

PLAN FOR 2-4 HOURS TO START...ONE OR TWO SESSIONS
Your mileage may vary...meaning it could take you more or less time...the first time will probably take longer than it will in future, though.

We suggest scheduling in a group PREP session first, as this is the earliest deadline.

If you picked solo, it's still a good idea to plan for a block of time that you can work on your CCP without interruptions.

The important thing is to dedicate the time to get started.

START WITH THE PREP

The PREP must be completed by December 31, 2013 so this is the first deadline.

The other components can be done at any time, as long as they are completed at the time you sign your declaration at registration renewal.

The PREP is available as a linkable PDF document that can be used with the free Adobe Reader. Download the entire PREP module from the COTM website from Quality Practice>Continuing Competence Program>Current Forms> item #3.

Here is the full link: http://www.cotm.ca/index.php/quality_practice/ccp_current_forms

The online scoresheet must be completed by December 31, 2013 along with your declaration that you have completed it. Answers will be published in early 2014.

A new PREP will be provided each year.

DO THE SELF ASSESSMENT

The self assessment is based on the Essential Competencies of Practice for Occupational Therapists in Canada... all Continuing Competence programs in Canada are based on these standards. This document is at http://www.cotm.ca/upload/COTM_Essential_Comptencies_3rd_Ed_Web.pdf

You can obtain the Self-Assessment from the COTM website at Quality Practice>Continuing Competence Program>Current Forms>item# 1.(http://www.cotm.ca/index.php/quality_practice/ccp_current_forms)

The Self-Assessment is available as a PDF that can be saved to your computer and filled in using Adobe Reader.

The self-assessment must be done at least once every 2 years.

DO YOUR PDP

The template form is provided as a convenience, but you can use any format as long as it contains all the elements of the template.

The template is available at the COTM website at Quality Practice>Continuing Competence Program>Current Forms> item#2. (http://www.cotm.ca/index.php/quality_practice/ccp_current_forms)

Professional Development Plans must be done with previous goals updated each year.

Goals should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound.

The PDP should contain information describing where the evidence for demonstrating achievement of your goal is located.

FILE YOUR MATERIALS

PUT THEM WHERE YOU CAN EASILY FIND THEM E.G. TAB 7
Ideally, you will have 2 CCP binders, one for a professional portfolio and the other for your regulatory information.

COTM made regulatory (COTM) binders available to new registrants in the past, but has discontinued this.

If you did not get one, or can't find it, you can make one using the suggested divider headings and content list found on the COTM website at Resources> Member Resource (Binder).

Here is the link: http://www.cotm.ca/index.php/resources/member_resource_binder

We recommend you keep copies of your completed CCP materials at Tab 7 of your COTM binder.
