Hi! I'm Adam. I'm not usually this serious! In fact, I'm never this serious, but this is the only picture of me that is even vaguely professional. Sorry for the stare-down. I'm pleased to meet you. Really.
IS WHERE I LIVE
When I first moved here in 1994, I didn't think I'd stay more than a few years. Once I got over the weather, I came to love this amazing city for its small-town feel and amazing natural beauty.
IS WHERE I GREW UP
I grew up on Cape Cod, home of chowdah, lobstah, and the Kennedy family. Ask me for my top ten things to do "down the Cape" if you're thinking about taking a Summer vacation there.
WHERE I WENT TO SCHOOL
At Tufts University I majored in International Relations with a concentration in African Studies. I served on student Senate and helped pay my way through school by selling T-shirts and running a small publishing operation. I spent my semester abroad in Niamey, Niger, where I briefly became proficient in French and Hausa. I was honored to be chosen as the student speaker at my graduation in 1994.
WHERE I LEARNED PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
My first "real" job was at Microsoft where I served as Product Manager on Office. My first official product was a small add-on to Microsoft Word called Internet Assistant. This free download would convert a word document to HTML, a file format that very few people had ever heard of. It turned out to be Microsoft's first ever Internet product. I later was the legal industry marketing guy for Office.
FLATTERED WHEN BILL CALLED MY DEMO
Six weeks after I began at Microsoft, I was asked to demo my product for Bill Gates. He called my demo, "salesy," which I took as a compliment. I'm still not sure if he meant it that way.
WHERE I CUT MY STARTUP TEETH
When the dotcom boom began, I left Microsoft to try my hand at an e-commerce tools provider called iCat which was later acquired by Intel. Here I was product manager for a hosted small-business store creation tool called "Lemonade Stand." I later became Director of Marketing for iShip.com working on technology to help improve operations in corporate mail rooms. iShip was purchased by Stamps.com and later sold to UPS.
WHERE I LEARNED TO LOVE STARTUPS
I spent 6 years at Cranium where I helped launch the brand in the US and more than two dozen other markets around the world. Most people think of Cranium as a party-game for adults, but we actually shipped over a hundred toys, books, and games. Here I had the opportunity to learn from an amazing team of tremendously creative people. Together, we won multiple industry awards and sold millions of units.
