PLANNING THE RIGHT WAY

OBJECTIVES

AM I JUST FILLING THE LESSON WITH ACTIVITIES?

DIFFERENTIATION

CAN I REALLY AFFORD TO LEAVE THIS BIT BLANK?

ARRIVAL ACTIVITY

HOW CAN I GET THEM IN AND GET THEM THINKING?

WEEKLY CHART

  • Nominate task/s for ranking
  • Mark the task
  • Rank the pupils' responses
  • Check the singles chart and match each pupil with their song
  • Arrange ranked seating
The pupils love the consistency of this system and it encourages aspiration and competition.

This system gives you and the pupils a clear indication of how pupils are coping with the particular material/skills you are focusing on at any given moment.

I like to sit and work with the bottom table and use the top table as experts or learning leaders.

This system also aids differentiated questioning.

AND AS I EXPLAINED TO THE INSPECTORS...

  • I can sit the pupils in rank order...
  • Or use my top 7 as learning leaders.
  • I can easily identify and help those who need it...
  • And stretch the ones who are flying.

AND AS THEY EXPLAINED BACK TO ME

  • It embeds a climate of competition and aspiration...
  • Especially with boys
  • The song at the start sets a great atmosphere...
  • And the kids get to enjoy my singing.
