PROTIST-GIARDIA

  • Is transmitted through drinking water that is contaminated
  • In places with poor water filters such as Africa
  • Causes vomiting and severe diarrhea
  • It can be deadly if not treated and can lead to starvation because
  • The protist take residence in the digestive area

PROTIST-TRYPANOSOMA

  • It is transmitted by the Tse Tse fly
  • Often found in sub Saharan Africa
  • Know as African sleeping sickness
  • The protist infects the central nervous system
  • Can cause confusion, lack of control and uncontrolled sleepiness

Protist-Plasmodium

  • Transmitted by the common mosquito
  • Also known as malaria a very common disease in Africa
  • They live inside the bloodstream, destroying blood cells
  • Causes 1.5-2.7 million deaths a year
  • The symptoms are similar to that of the flu

  • They are unicellular
  • Can cause diseases such as malaria
  • May be hard to cure because drugs that harm parasites
  • Also harm humans
  • First originated in 1674
