why?

3Cs: critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration
Pose the question - elicit ideas. Why do we need to worry about this? - particularly when, in our specific context, our students are so successful under the current, traditional model.

technology is merely a tool

A tool - not the end point.
Current teaching practices can, and do, fit alongside future learning goals, e.g. literacy circles, generic novel studies, class debates, research...

to shift pedagogy

The ultimate aim - SHIFT key word:
sage on the stage - guide on the side
student - learner
ultimately: building learning communities

to become more student-centric

Be driven by student needs
Technology can allow us to more efficiently personalise learning
Ultimately: 'learning communities' - work and learn together.

to instil the '3Cs'

The overarching goal of future-oriented teaching and learning

inquiry model

From the NZC
Can be used on a micro as well as a macro level

The relevant RTCs have now been mapped to elearning too

big questions

Ask big, over-arching, 'non-googleable' questions

authentic context

Use authentic, 'real-world' context for learning and make products have the same application.

flipping content

In a manner of speaking English already does this - it's call read the novel at home and come into class ready to discuss...
We can also look at flipping concrete content e.g. language lessons

engage with social media

Social Media -
To build a personal learning network (PLN) or personal/professional learning community (PLC), e.g. Twitter, VLN, Blogs, Listservs ...
In the classroom - ubiquity a recurring concept. Twitter hashtags for students to continue the conversation after the lesson...?

be paperless

A fairly minimum requirement with all senior students on devices - upload PowerPoints or 'Handouts' to Ultranet before the lesson...
