1. Create intriguing board names.

Use keywords, if you wish.
Create a working title for your new board, such as "Our Products". Add pins.

Once you've populated your board with several pins, change the title, to emphasize a benefit of your products.

2. Use the Pin It bookmarklet.

Add pins while browsing.
Check out the Pinterest "Goodies" page:
http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/

You'll find the bookmarklet, widgets, and Pinterest apps for your mobile devices.

3. Tag other pinners.

Use @username to tag. They'll be notified of your mention.
Pinterest is a social network. So, when you tag someone with "@" they'll check out your pin.

4. No time to pin?

"Like" it.
If you see a pin you'd like to repin, but don't have time to choose a board or write a description, click the heart icon.

The pin will be waiting for you on your Likes page.

5. Be different.

Find unique items (pin your own stuff too.)
Always repinning? Find unique items, and don't forget to pin your own stuff too, with unique images.

6. Promote your boards.

Think of each board as a website.
Promote your boards as you would a website.

Add boards' URLs to your own website, to your stationery, and to your email and other signature files.

7. Comment!

Be social. Comment, just as you would on Facebook.
The more you interact on Pinterest, the better. Comment, like, and repin prolifically.

8. Images matter.

Found a better image? Edit your pin.
You can edit your boards and pins at any time.

Create new images, edit descriptions, and add mentions and hashtags as necessary.

(Hashtags are only clickable in descriptions, not in your images.)

9. Use the Description field.

You've got 500 characters to make your pins easier to find.
You can add anything you like to the description field: notes, how-tos, recipes, and of course hashtags and mentions.

You've got around 100 words to play with, since there's a 500-character limit to the field. Use the keywords your audience would use.

10. Remember the Calendar.

Pin seasonally.
Check the calendar for holidays.

Pin according to the season, if it works for your business -- it does for most.

Prepare holiday boards in advance. Use your "secret" boards to collect creative materials for the holidays.

11. Be responsive.

Reply to people who comment on your pins.
Respond when someone comments on a pin. Visit their boards.

A "thank you" is always appropriate.

12. Selling?

Add the price.
Rich pins can include real-time product pricing:

13. Ensure your Website is pin-worthy.

Use social media buttons.
The easier you make sharing, the more shares and pins you'll get.

Using WordPress? You'll find lots of social media plugins which feature Pinterest.

14. Speed-pin.

Highlight some text before you pin...
When you highlight text on a page before you click the Pin It button, the high-lighted text is copied to the description field.

15. Use your "secret" Boards.

You get 6 secret boards.
Pinterest gives you six secret boards which you can use to create Pinterest campaigns, collect creative materials -- or in any way you choose.
