PSYCOSOCIAL DEVELOPMENT THEORY

BY: MEGAN, MARIA, & AMANDA

STAGE 1

  • Infancy (0-1 1/2 years) Trust vs. Mistrust
  • Newborns are dependent on others
  • Infants feel secure and have trust that when they cry because he's hungry that someone will feed him

STAGE 2

  • Early childhood (1 1/2 to 3 years) Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt
  • The child is trying to gain control over his body
  • The child will either feel proud of themselves for mastering an activity or shame that they can't

STAGE 3

  • Play age (3-5) Initiative vs. Guilt
  • During these ages the child takes initiative and is very curious
  • Either they are praised and encouraged or made to feel guilty

STAGE 4

  • Elementary school age (5-12 years)
  • Industry vs. Inferiority
  • This stage the child is gaining much knowledge and new skills
  • They will either feel industrious or feel guilty

STAGE 5

  • Adolescence (12-18)
  • Identity and reputation vs. Identity confusion
  • They either begin to determine who he is and what he wants out of life
  • Or he grapples with an identity crisis

STAGE 6

  • Young adult (18-25)
  • Intimacy and solidarity vs. Isolation
  • Once they figure out who they're, they are ready to share them self with another person
  • They are ready to have an intimate relationship and start a family
  • Or he will isolate an not connect to society

STAGE 7

  • Adulthood (25-65)
  • Generativity vs. Self-Absorption
  • They will either be productive and contribute to society
  • Or they will become self-absorbed and negative

STAGE 8

  • Older adult (65+ years)
  • Integrity vs. Despair
  • They will either feel a sense of accomplishment that his life made a positive difference
  • Or they will feel despair or regret for all the things he did not do
